Why Use Spanish Mackerel?

• Scent Trail: These fish are naturally very oily. As they thaw in the water, they release a strong scent trail that attracts predators like Bass ,Pike, Conger Eels, Rays, and Sharks.

• Durability: Unlike some softer baits, Spanish Mackerel has a “leather-like” skin. This makes it excellent for long-range casting or trolling without the bait tearing off the hook.

• Versatility: You can use them whole for larger predators, or cut them into strips,to match the size of  the fish you are targeting  which release even more oily scent  into the water.

Tips for Using Frozen Mackerel

• Keep it Frozen: Only take out what you need. Keeping the bait semi-frozen ,a small Coolbox is ideal for this especially in warmer weather

• Bait Elastic: Even though the skin is tough, using a few wraps of bait elastic will ensure the bait stays streamlined during the cast and protects against “nuisance” fish picking it apart.

• Refreezing: While possible, try to avoid refreezing bait multiple times, as the cells break down, making the fish mushy and less effective at holding a hook.
