Medium Launce (Sandeel) – Premium Frozen Sea Bait | Solent Baits

Approx. 6–7 inches

Our Medium Launce (Greater Sandeel, Hyperoplus lanceolatus) are superb-quality, premium frozen sea fishing bait, ideal for both shore and boat fishing. Carefully blast frozen to lock in freshness, these natural sandeels are a proven favourite for targeting hard-fighting predatory species.

The Greater Sandeel, commonly known as a Launce, is a long, slender predatory fish found in UK coastal waters, particularly over sandy seabeds. With their natural scent, profile, and action in the water, Launce are extremely attractive to predators such as bass, rays, pollack, and mackerel.

Why Use Medium Launce (Sandeels)?

  • 🐟 Highly attractive natural scent and profile – irresistible to predatory fish

  • Blast frozen for maximum freshness – tough enough to stay on the hook

  • 🌿 Sustainably sourced – responsibly collected to protect stocks

  • 🎣 Extremely effective for predatory species – shore and boat anglers trust them

  • 🌊 Blonde rays love launce – especially over clean sandy ground

Target Species

Medium Launce are widely used to catch:

  • Bass

  • Blonde Rays

  • Thornback Rays

  • Pollack

  • Mackerel

  • Other predatory sea fish

Description & Habitat

  • Pointed head and elongated, slender body

  • Distinctive chevron pattern along the belly

  • Inhabit sandy and gravel seabeds, burrowing into the sand to avoid strong currents

  • Completely natural food source for many coastal predators

Usage as Fishing Bait

  • Supplied blast frozen to maintain top quality

  • Can be used whole or sectioned

  • Ideal for shore fishing, boat fishing, and ray fishing

  • Secure with bait elastic for longer casts and durability

  • Outperforms artificial lures when predators are actively feeding

Fishing Tips:

  • Fish over clean sand or mixed ground

  • Excellent on Pulley Rigs ,Up and Over Rigs

  • Deadly for Rays  and Bass during tide run-ups

  • Works equally well day or night

  • 💡 Solent Baits Tip: Cut the tail off and use half a sandeel or eel – more juices are released, attracting more fish. Bigger bait isn’t always better. Try fishing close in as well as at distance; fish often feed near the shore. I’ve had rays and bass feeding just 20 yards out, especially on an incoming tide.
