Our Live Peeler Crab (Qty 50) are premium quality UK shore crabs supplied during the peeling stage — one of the most effective natural sea fishing baits available.
All crabs will vary in size depending on the season. In early season (March/April), the crabs are generally larger as the bigger males peel first. As the season progresses, smaller males and females begin to peel.
Peeler crab is at its most effective during the pre-moult stage, when the crab is about to shed its shell. During this period, it releases a strong natural scent trail that fish find irresistible. Once fully peeled (soft crab stage), they remain an excellent bait but with slightly less scent release.

A peeler crab is the common shore crab that sheds its shell as it grows. When the crab outgrows its shell, it enters a short pre-moult phase before shedding. This is when it becomes highly attractive to fish due to the natural scent produced during the process.

To prepare your peeler crab:

Remove as much of the outer shell and under armour as possible.

Carefully peel the legs while keeping them attached if possible.

You’ll be left with a round section of exposed crab meat.

If large, the crab can be cut in half.

Mount onto the hook through the back and out through a leg socket.

Secure firmly using bait elastic.
